"How much will an app cost?" has the same honest answer as a website: it depends on what the app has to do. This guide gives typical 2026 market ranges in India, explains what makes an app cost more or less, and lists the yearly costs people often forget.
Typical price ranges
These are common ranges for work by a professional agency in India. Your quote depends on screens, features and design.
- Simple app (catalogue, enquiry form, notifications, a few screens): often about ₹80,000 to ₹1,50,000.
- Business or e-commerce app connected to your website or store, with login, orders and payments: often ₹1,50,000 to ₹3,00,000.
- Custom app with its own backend, such as bookings, delivery tracking, multiple user roles or chat: often ₹3,00,000 to ₹5,00,000 and above.

What drives the cost
- Number of screens and features. Every screen needs design, development and testing.
- Android, iOS or both. A cross-platform framework such as Flutter or React Native builds both from one codebase, which usually costs much less than two separate native apps. Read our Flutter vs React Native vs native comparison.
- Backend and admin panel. If the app needs its own server, database and admin panel, that is a large part of the work. If it connects to your existing website or store, it can cost less.
- Integrations. Payments, maps, SMS or WhatsApp, and connections to billing or accounting software each add time.
- Design. A custom, polished design costs more than a clean standard layout.
Store and yearly costs
- Google Play: a one-time developer registration fee.
- Apple App Store: a yearly developer membership fee.
- Server and hosting for the backend, if the app has one.
- Maintenance: Android and iOS update every year, and apps need updates to keep working and stay in the stores. Budget roughly 15 to 20 percent of the build cost a year.
- Third-party services: push notifications, SMS, maps or email may have usage-based fees at scale.
How to keep the cost under control
- Start with a first version (MVP) that has only the features your customers need most.
- Use a cross-platform framework unless you have a strong reason not to.
- Reuse what you have: if your website or store already manages products and orders, connect the app to it.
- Write down every screen and feature before you ask for quotes, so you can compare them fairly.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an app, or is a mobile website enough?
For many small businesses a fast mobile website is enough. An app makes sense when customers use it often, for example to reorder, book, track deliveries or read content daily.
How long does an app take to build?
A simple app often takes six to ten weeks. Apps with their own backend and many features take three months or more.
Who owns the app and its code?
You should. Make sure the contract says the source code and store accounts belong to your business, and publish the app under your own developer accounts.
